Why we ICAP

Why we ICAP.  And why I/we should care.

  • Academic Achievement:
    • ICAP development supports academic achievement by providing long term goals for career and college admissions

    • ICAP development increases graduation rate by providing motivation to help students stay on track, graduate on time, and maintain strong academic standing for postsecondary readiness

  • Culture of Long Term Planning:

    • A strong school ICAP culture creates a culture of long term planning and forward thinking.

    • Students who invest in individual, career and academic planning create a vision of success for their future.

  • Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness (PWR):

    • ICAP development prepares students for the world of work, career and advanced academics.

    • When students match their interests, skills and abilities with careers and post-graduate academic programs, they become postsecondary and workforce ready.

Students who engage in the ICAP Process:

  • are more motivated to attend school and stay engaged
  • show us their growth mindset, their curiosity, and their self-awareness
  • own their learning and connect the relevance of education to future aspirations
  • become confident learners who can actively set goals
  • make secondary and postsecondary course plans to pursue career and life goals
  • step outside of their comfort zone and explore options
  • have Individual meaningful career conversations, invite exploration, and promote discussion
  • know how to fail, reflect, and succeed
  • can articulate their strengths and skills and apply knowledge about how their actions today connect with their goals
  • engage in more CTE courses
  • graduate by demonstrating readiness according to the Graduation Guideline Menu of Options
