Below is a list of active Private Gifts, Grants and Donations from Private Organizations, Businesses and Foundations. Additions will be made to this list as new award letters and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) are received. Once a grant has reached its duration, it will be removed from this list.

The total funds from these Private, Gifts, Grants and Donations represent approximately 2% of CDE's operating budget.

Please note, as of November of 2015 CDE implemented new templates for grant award letters and MOUs. Grants that started prior to this process will not be in the new templates and may not have associated MOUs.

Technology, Instruments, Guest, Experiences, and Resources (TIGER) Music Grant 

Face Vocal Band

This opportunity will provide small grants to applicants to impact classroom/school music programs. Knowing that it is often very difficult for music programs to buy sheet music, risers and the basics for music instruction, small grants will be award to offset these costs.

Healthy Learner Model

Kaiser Foundation

Funding to support school nursing. These funds support CDE’s work with regional nurse specialists in Pikes Peak and the North Central region to improve the management of students with chronic asthma in schools. The aim is to improve the coordination of evidence based chronic disease management in schools and between families, medical providers, and the student.

Colorado Talking Book Library Friends of the Colorado Talking Book Library Board of Directors This grant supports the Colorado Talking Book Library (CTBL) in its mission to provide free services to Coloradans who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical, or learning disabilities. CTBL provides audio, Braille, and large-print books and magazines. The grant supports reader services and outreach. $170,000.00 7/1/2015 6/30/2016

Philanthropic Investment Non-Grant Trust Fund

Gifts and donations to the Colorado Talking Book Library (CTBL) sustain this Trust, established in 1981 with a bequest of $91,000; SB80-330 enables the Colorado State Library and the CTBL to use the Trust’s “principal or interest… for programs or purposes specified in the gift or bequest.”

Current average daily balance in trust is $712,940

SPELL (Supporting Parents in Early Literacy through Libraries) in Action

Reach Out and Read; Serve Colorado

Colorado State Library (CSL) has received grants from two organizations to support training personnel from approximately 40 public libraries and their early literacy agency partners. That training will support public libraries in the creation and implementation of programs that support the youngest Coloradans and their families in achieving early literacy.

$3,000 from Reach Out and Read; $5,000 from Serve Colorado

Colorado Education Initiative

Funding to support district implementation of the Colorado Academic and English Language Proficiency Standards, including any necessary staff to support districts with implementing the standards. These funds support CDE working with educator teams to develop and share examples of how teachers across the state are helping students master the state standards.

Funding to support the Physical Education Cadre to conduct statewide trainings on physical education and physical activity. Additionally, a regional nurse specialist program provides technical assistance and professional development to school nurses.
