Jimmy Lee Day II, the band director and instrumental music teacher at East Middle School in Aurora Public Schools, was announced as Colorado’s 2023 Teacher of the Year in a surprise ceremony at his school.

National Assessment of Educational Progress

Colorado outscores nation in reading but mirrors declining math scores
Results from a national math and reading test for fourth and eighth graders showed Colorado scores, along with the rest of the U.S., dropped in most areas since the pandemic. State reading scores, however, were better than the national average.

 A total of 42 Colorado school districts and 28 charter schools will each receive a portion of $10 million in federal grants for K-8 math curricula and K-3 READ Act instructional programming.
