School Climate Transformation
CDE is committed to collaboratively addressing school climate with school districts to guide our collective work through the School Climate Transformation Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This grant provides the opportunity to bring districts and CDE’s internal offices together to support the development of an integrated multi-tiered framework that addresses school climate and connectedness, student engagement, behavioral/mental health, and social emotional learning to effectively meet the needs of all students in Colorado. The integrated framework will then be implemented throughout the state to minimize confusion among the field, increase coherence toward an inclusive approach with evidence-based practices as the basis for addressing students’ social, emotional and behavioral needs and creating a positive school climate.

School Climate Transformation Workgroup
The development of a integrated framework will be done through the convening of a workgroup consisting of district/school representatives and internal CDE staff. The integrated framework will address school climate, as well as leverage existing frameworks related to mental health, social emotional learning, and academic and behavioral supports. Once developed, this framework will be piloted in schools to determine relevance, strengths, and gaps. From there, additional learnings and feedback will be integrated in advance of scaling within district systems.
Through the School Climate Transformation Grant, trainings related to trauma responsiveness, social emotional learning, suicide prevention, and other topics will be offered. Check back in the near future to see what has been scheduled.
