Learner Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify several assessments and curriculum guides that will assist with the development of age appropriate goals and objectives for middle and high schools, and transition students with ASD.
  • Identify several priorities of instruction for secondary students with ASD.
  • Identify a variety of specific skills to target within each assessment or curriculum guide.

Study Questions

  1. What are functional skills, and why is it important to teach functional skills to students with ASD?
  2. List three essential functional skills identified in the AFLS, TTAP or Essential for Living.
  3. List three priorities of instruction in transition programming.
  4. List five specific skills to teach in the areas of communication and social skills.
  5. Why is it important to use ASD specific social skills assessments?
