Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has set aside nearly $10 million in federal COVID relief funding for an online math platform available to districts for free for K-8 students in Colorado. Zearn is a digital math learning platform that is to the Colorado Academic Standards and gives students grade-level math learning with bulit-in supports. Polis offered the program to districts in 2023-24 and again for the 2024-25 school year. Approximately two-thirds of Colorado's school districts opted in to use the online platform in 2023-24, serving 771 schools and more than 109,000 students. Here is a press release from the governor's office announcing the Zearn investment.
In May, we visited Valverde Elementary School in Denver Public Schools to see how the platform is incorporated into learning. Fifth-grade teacher Gabriela Segura-Monge said the program has helped students, particularly with their word problems.
The governor has extended funding to allow the program to continue into the 2024-25 school year. Districts can sign up for the platform at https://about.zearn.org/colorado.
