CoMath Coherence Gap Workshops

The school year is wrapping up and while you worked hard and covered a lot of content, you didn't get to all the topics you wanted to. What's that going to mean for next year?

The Coherence Gap Spreadsheet is designed to help you answer that question. To help you get started, I'm offering a series of 1-hour workshops. Information about the tool and registration links are on the CDE website. I hope to see you there!

Colorado Math Leaders Updates

Today was the annual business meeting of the Colorado Math Leaders where we transition leadership roles and look forward to next year. I'd like to publicly thank Megan Korponic of DPS, the CML President for 2020-2021, for doing an excellent job leading us through a rocky year. I'd also like to recognize the new leadership coming in for 2021-2022: Kim Smith (Mesa County) is our new president, Lisa Rogers (Fountain-Fort Carson) is our new president-elect, and Marci Hellman (Jeffco) is our new NCSM representative.

We are starting to make plans for next year, including meeting times and durations, special interest groups, summer activities, and possible book studies and guest speakers. If you want your voice to be heard in these decisions, be sure to follow the conversations in our email group by signing up at https://groups.io/g/comathleaders. Everyone is welcome, but CML is geared with math leaders in mind -- that could be a curriculum specialist, an instructional coach, a TOSA, a department chair, an independent consultant, or anyone else who finds themselves in a math leadership capacity.

CCTM: Last Chapter of Taking Action Book Study

Head on over to CCTM's website to register for the last Taking Action book study session on June 1. I hear there's going to be a very special guest, but I honestly don't know who it is! I'll be there and prepared to be surprised along with the rest of you.

PAEMST Finalists Announced

I worry that I'm burying the lede by putting this below the first update, but we have PAEMST state finalists to celebrate! We're actually celebrating two sets of finalists, one from the delayed 2019-2020 K-6 application cycle, and three from the 2020-2021 cycle. As state finalists, each of these teachers' applications will be considered by a national review panel convened by the National Science Foundation, and official selection of PAEMST awardees will be done by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. • Michelle Dillard, a fifth-grade teacher at Twain Elementary School in Centennial, is a 14-year veteran in Littleton Public Schools. Michelle is the sole 2019-2020 finalist.
• Elissa Pitts, a high school mathematics teacher at Poudre High School in Fort Collins, is a 24-year veteran in the Poudre School District.
• Jacob Thompson, an 8th grade teacher at STEM Lab K-8 in Northglenn, is a 7-year veteran in Adams 12 Five-Star Schools.
• Natalie Sprigg, an 8th grade teacher at Mountain Ridge Middle School in Highlands Ranch, is a 16-year veteran in the Douglas County School District.

Casio EA-200 Available

The Casio EA-200 is a data collection device designed for classroom use and a retired HS math teacher is willing to donate his to a school that can use it. If interested, email Terry Walsh at trterryw@yahoo.com.
