New Executive Director of Licensure
Dr. Colleen O’Neil has been selected to fill the Executive Director of the Office of Professional Services and Licensing position that Dr. Jami Goetz will be vacating in mid-December. Dr. O’Neil joined the Colorado Department of Education this fall as the Director of Educator Effectiveness Support and Review. Prior to joining the department, she served as the Director of Curriculum, Career and Technical Education for the South Dakota Department of Education, reporting to the Secretary of Education. Before moving to South Dakota, Dr. O’Neil served as the Chief Human Resource Officer at Greely Public Schools, where she spent five years serving in a variety of roles including school-level administration. Dr. O’Neill spent several years in the private sector, where she worked on online learning platforms and served such clients as NASA and VISA. She began her career as an eighth grade teacher in Guernsey, WY.
Dr. O’Neil’s depth and breadth of experiences will be an asset to the Office of Professional Services and Licensing. From her Greeley experience, she brings strong knowledge of the licensing and hiring processes and knows first-hand the needs of districts with regard to recruiting and retaining great talent into their classrooms. She’s spent the past several months embedded in the department’s educator effectiveness unit, where she has gained strong knowledge of the state’s educator evaluation system. In addition, she brings a state perspective having spent time in a senior leadership role in South Dakota, where she also worked closely with higher education and community college systems. And, her deep knowledge with e-learning systems will serve useful as we continue to strengthen the licensure system and work to advance the department’s professional learning. We are pleased to have her join the department in this new role.
Renewal fees for added endorsement
Coming Soon: When renewing a credential, the base application fee will include the credential and one endorsement. There will be an additional $20.00 fee for each endorsement being renewed beyond that first endorsement.
Credential certificates are sent via email, upon approval
CDE’s Educator Licensing Office no longer prints and mails paper copies of educator licenses, endorsements, credentials or authorizations, unless specifically requested by the credential holder. Credentials, once approved, will be sent as a PDF attachment via email to the applicant.
Reference number assigned to applications upon submission
Effective February 1, 2013, applications that have been successfully submitted to CDE are automatically issued a number. This number acts as a receipt number. Once the application is approved and the credential is issued, that receipt number automatically becomes the credential number. The number itself DOES NOT indicate that a particular application has been approved or that the credential is valid. Always check the credential’s status for its validity.
