PD Series Topic 2: CTE Pathways & SWDs: Inspiring Courage to Excel through Self-Efficacy

This Professional Development (PD) Series is a collaborative effort from the Exceptional Student Services Unit (ESSU) of Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the state office for Career & Technical Education (CTE) in Colorado, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), and the National Alliance for Partnership in Equity (NAPE). Within the state of Colorado, the data shows students with disabilities (SWDs) are not accessing CTE courses at the same rate of their non-disabled peers. Although many factors may influence outcomes, these professional learning opportunities will examine two: micro messaging and student self-efficacy.
This PD Series includes four VIRTUAL training sessions of two separate and required topics. This series is offered for a cohort of up to 50 participants each session. Please see session dates and times below and register here. (Please note: due to NAPE’S training policies, these sessions will not be recorded nor archived. These sessions are only offered LIVE!) Topic 1: Micro Messaging to Reach and Teach Every Student (choose one):
- January 19, 2022 Time: 8:00am - 11:30am, or
- February 4, 2022 Time: 12:30pm - 4:00pm
Description: In this interactive workshop, participants will explore ways micro messages can help achieve equity in the classroom and improve student outcomes. Participants will learn about and be able to define micro messages, including the types of communication cues in which they most often manifest, and identify how these messages can enhance student engagement.
Topic 2: Inspiring Courage to Excel through Self-Efficacy (choose one - either one all-day session or two half-day sessions):
- January 20, 2022 (Full session) Time: 8:00am - 3:00pm, or
- February 18, 2022 (Part I) AND March 4 (Part II) Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Description: This workshop will prepare educators to focus on students’ assets rather than their deficits. They will learn how to articulate the benefits of a self-efficacy for students by identifying behaviors associated with high and low self-efficacy and how to apply strategies to promote a high self-efficacy. This workshop will prepare educators to build student self-efficacy through intentional micro-affirmations, provide actionable strategies for implementation in the classroom, and offer a turn-key coachable model for helping students build their own self efficacy. Ultimately, this course empowers and enables educators to inspire courage in their students to persist through difficulty and to realize their full potential.
